Project Overview

Wagner Renewables was contracted to carry out a major solar panel cleaning project in the Midlands, covering over 14,700 solar panels across a mix of flat roofs, pitched roofs, and solar carports. The installation, generating just over 7MW of renewable energy, required a tailored cleaning approach to maximise performance and ensure long-term efficiency.

Our Approach

Due to the scale of the site and the variation in roof types, we deployed both manual cleaning methods and our specialist solar panel cleaning robot. Each panel was carefully cleaned, with the robot taking on the bulk of the work for the pitched roof sections & car ports. This marked the largest project to date for our robotic cleaning system. Our skilled team ensured that every panel, whether on a pitched roof, carport, or flat roof, was left spotless and performing at its best.

Detailed Reporting

As part of the project, every roof area and carport was individually assessed and reported on. Our reporting included a pre-clean inspection to identify any damaged modules, along with a visual overview of the mounting system to highlight potential concerns. Before-and-after cleanliness levels were documented, as well as any access challenges encountered during the cleaning process. We also checked for and recorded any pest activity, such as birds’ nests, which can affect both performance and safety. This level of detail ensures our clients receive a full overview of the condition of their system alongside the cleaning results.

Over time, solar panels can accumulate dirt, dust, bird droppings, and other debris that reduce efficiency and energy output. Regular cleaning helps maintain system performance and prolongs the life of the panels by reducing the likelihood of hotspots. Wherever possible, we use pure deionised water during the cleaning process, ensuring a streak-free finish without the need for harsh chemicals, protecting both the panels and the environment.
